Greek Gods and their Sacred Animal

The Situation

This is an infographic card set that visually depicts the relationships between Greek gods and their mythologically assigned animals. The client commissioned a card set that would both introduce and explain some of the most prominent Greek gods and Goddesses in Greek mythology, as well as their associated “sacred animals”, or animals that are often depicted within their mythos. The tasks at hand were to create sleek icons for both animals and gods, then implement them onto cards, and finally, design and craft a card box.

I started out by researching reference images of the animals and sketching them down so I could have a foundation for my icons

The Solution

On the front of each card features one or two icons that represent characteristics of a deity, accompanied by stylized representations of their symbolic animal on the back, such as Zeus with his mighty eagle or Athena with her wise owl.

The layout is clean and organized, with crisp typography highlighting key origin mythology about the gods and their creatures, including their symbolic meanings and roles in mythology. The color palette draws inspiration from ancient Greek art, using rich earth tones to evoke the essence of classical greek pottery. This card set not only serves as an educational tool but also as a visually engaging way to explore the fascinating connections between deities and the natural world in Greek mythology.

This cardset bolstered my craftsmanship skills, especially with the construction of the card box, where I created my own die cut to specially fit the dimensions of the cards. Another lesson learned was you always use a straight edge, even when you think you do not need it.
